Tanya Ogilvie-White

Artist, Photographer, writer, speaker, scholar

I'm an Australia-based artist and photographer, with a passion for wildlife and fine art. I find peace and tranquility in nature, and love capturing its meditative effects in my work.

I’m known for my variation on the ancient art of encaustic painting: burning layers of clear and coloured beeswax and hardeners onto wooden panels to create permanent, archival quality artworks. I’m drawn to the ethereal effect that can be achieved when molten wax and resin are tinted with raw pigments, inks and oils and fused together using a live flame, in a process that feels like alchemy. All of the encaustic artworks you see on my website use variations of this technique, some of them completely unique to my work. My finished panels, including my encaustic triptychs (which are in private collections around the world) are available for sale at art exhibitions, art fairs and online (via SaatchiArt.com) and can be shipped globally. If you know me for my ethereal artworks, it might surprise you to learn that I’m also an academic, writer, and speaker and have spent my life engaging in global policy debates on nuclear disarmament (and lately also climate change). I’m currently serving on a Japanese governmental initiative known as the IGEP (International Group of Eminent Persons for a World Without Nuclear Weapons).

Recently, I decided to bring these two parts of my professional life together, initially in an encaustic series that drew attention to the global extinction crisis, and increasingly via digital projects that address existential threats via large-scale civic art, expert lectures and sound recordings.
