Homeward (triptych)

A$2,800.00

'Homeward' tells the story of Australia's iconic yellow-tailed black cockatoo, which mates for life and can live to be 60 years old, even in the wild. They nest in old tree hollows, and are dedicated parents, spending their time training their young to survive in Australia's harsh wilderness. This young male is a first-time parent. He's flying home to his nest hollow to check on his mate and newborn chick.

This piece is created using a contemporary adaptation of the ancient Greek practice of encaustic painting. In this case, layers of beeswax, resin and pigments have been burned into my enlarged wildlife photograph, using a live flame. Each layer is fused to the one below, creating an ethereal surface that reflects light into the room, giving the impression of ‘bringing the outdoors indoors’.

This piece does not need to be framed - its unique edges are part of the artwork and look best left as they are. The backs of the panels is prepped with picture hardware, ready to hang.

My encaustic triptychs are in private collections around the world and are available for domestic and international shipping.
