Australian magpies are known for their beautiful song and endearing curiosity. I photographed this one late one evening, as a rising moon shone silvery light across a tranquil waterhole.

Back in my studio, I transformed it into a contemporary artwork using layers of contrasting cold wax, which I scraped back with metal tools to reveal the layers beneath. It's a highly textured piece - a slight departure from my hot wax style, and the second of three original magpie paintings in my new 'Moonlight' cold wax series.

This piece is painted on thick hardwood board and does not need to be framed. The back is prepped with picture hardware, ready to hang.
