Moonrise and the Lorikeets (SOLD)
Moonrise and the Lorikeets (SOLD)
Throughout Australia, rainbow lorikeets flock through the twilight skies, looking for places to perch before night falls. This encaustic original shows a nesting pair, searching for a for a place to rest while the full moon rises behind them.
I created 'Moonrise and the Lorikeets' by burning 50-60 layers of beeswax and resin into a cradled and braced wooden panel, embedding oils, inks and pastels between the layers. The effect is ethereal and dreamy, allowing the viewer to look deep into the painting, while the surface reflects a soft light from a hardened, cold wax finish.
This is part of my unique Last Light Series, which combines encaustic (hot wax) with the vibrant colors of cold wax and oil. It does not need to be framed (the back is already prepped with picture hardware, ready to hang).
