Soft Rain at Moonrise (triptych)
Soft Rain at Moonrise (triptych)
Dimensions: 93cm x42cm (total size of the three separate panels when hanging together)
Encaustic on cradled wood.
'Soft Rain at Moonrise' is part of my new Flower Moon series, which highlights the relationship between flora, fauna and the rising and setting moon in the Byron Shire (Australia's eastern-most point). It's a magical place, known for its beautiful coast and hinterland, where soft mists often linger into the morning and the flower moon casts a rosy glow over the landscape.
In this original encaustic triptych, an eastern rosella parrot sits in a gumtree as soft rain creates a veil for the rising flower moon, which is out of sight. The light is gentle and soothing, and there's a sense of timelessness.
This 3-panel triptych is created using an adaptation of the ancient Greek practice of encaustic painting. In this case, layers of beeswax, resin and pigments are burned into my enlarged wildlife photographs using a live flame. Each layer is fused to the one below, creating an ethereal surface that reflects light into the room, giving the impression of ‘bringing the outdoors indoors’.
This triptych does not need to be framed - its unique edges are part of the artwork and look best left as they are. The backs of the panels are prepped with picture hardware, ready to hang.
My encaustic triptychs are in private collections around the world and are available for domestic and international shipping.
