'The Last Cockatoo' (SOLD)

A$2,500.00

‘The Last Cockatoo’ (2020) is an original encaustic painting by Australia-based wildlife artist, Tanya Ogilvie-White. It’s part of her ‘Extinction Series,’ which was created during the devastating Australian bushfires of 2019-2020. More than a billion Australian animals died in the fires, including many iconic and endangered species, such as the glossy black cockatoo, which is facing extinction.

In the painting, a glossy black cockatoo flies over a burnt and flooded landscape, where little else survives. Beyond, a rainbow streaks across a stormy, smoke-filled sky - a symbol of hope that there is still time to create a better future, in which iconic species are protected and biodiversity thrives.
