The Deep Blue is part of the Velvet Calm series, inspired by the flora and fauna of Eastern Australia. This work shows three Australian Pelicans heading out to sea from the mouth of the Brunswick River in Eastern Australia. The clouds above them are reflected in the surface of the water they're gliding on, and the sense of cavernous depths of the ocean floor beneath them is created by carving into textured layers of cold wax medium. The artwork creates a sense of awe and wonder and inner calm.
