Wild Coast
Wild Coast
Dimensions: 50cm x 45cm
Materials: hot and cold wax plus hardening agents and raw pigments on cradled and braced wooden panel.
'Wild Coast' is the title piece in the 2024-5 Wild Coast series, created to draw international attention to the urgent need to strengthen Australia's nature laws. Pristine coastline is becoming more and more rare around the world - we need to protect what's left, as it provides vital habitat for flora and fauna, some of which is under threat from a combination of land clearing, climate change and biodiversity loss.
Wild Coast shows a Rainbow Bee-eater catching insects on the wing along a still wild section of Australia's eastern coastline, just north of Byron Bay, where a housing estate is slated for development in an area of sensitive habitat.
The artwork has a recycled wooden panel as its substrate. Its unique surface is created by layering, carving and burning hot and cold wax pigments and hardeners into the wooden surface over time. The finished piece has the appearance of unglazed ceramic and is highly tactile.
This museum-grade piece is best left unframed. It is prepped with picture hardware and available for international shipping.
