Part of Tanya’s Dreamscapes Series, created by embedding raw pigments into multiple layers of hot and cold wax to create texture and depth. The magpie depicted in this artwork was photographed in the nature reserve behind the beach at Brunswick Heads. It’s a magical place for bird photography when the full moon rises behind the trees. The moon in this piece is part of the ‘dreamscape’, i.e. it was not part of the original photograph, but was created in the studio using cold wax medium, embedded in several layers behind the magpie and branch. The leaves were added later using a different technique, using tissue paper and oil paint.
